Culinard news around Birmingham

Two Culinard grads, Chef Jason Mullenix of Arlington Antebellum Home & Gardens and William Rogers, sous chef at 26, both in Birmingham, were recently featured in The Birmingham News "Food Detective" section.

"The school is extremely proud of both Jason and William as they continue to flourish in their culinary careers," said Chef Anthony Osborne, Dean of Culinard, the Culinary Institute of Virginia College. "They are wonderful examples of professionals who are dedicated to our craft."

Speaking of Dean Osborne, culinary website The Reluctant Gourmet recently interviewed him about his international culinary career, his teaching philosophy, and what makes Culinard a different kind of cooking school.

 

Television personality Judge Greg Mathis (pictured in suit surrounded by Culinard staff and students) recently spoke to Virginia College graduates at the Birmingham campus and enjoyed a meal prepared by Culinard faculty and students. Chefs Jerome Queyriaux, Jared Danks and Tyessea Mosley prepared the luncheon with Culinard students. They prepared a three-course meal including Louisiana Crab Cakes, Grilled Lemon Grass Chicken and a fresh Strawberry Mille Feulle.

Now in its 13th season, "Judge Mathis" is produced by AND Syndicated Productions and Telepictures Productions and distributed by Warner Bros. Domestic Television Distribution.

Finally, Culinard will be represented at Break n' Bread on Sunday, October 9 at Birmingham's Railroad Park from 1 to 5. This is an annual event sponsored by Birmingham Originals, a nonprofit group that promotes local food and independent restaurants. Cooking demonstrations and samples of signature local dishes, food and wine will be provided and American Idol winner Taylor Hicks will perform. Proceeds from the event go to Children's of Alabama.
